Tara Miller Joins Destination DC as Senior Manager, International Sales

(Washington, DC) – Destination DC (DDC) today announced that Tara Miller has joined the organization as its new senior manager of international sales. In her role, Miller will execute the strategy to attract international meetings and conventions of all sizes to the nation’s capital. The dedicated focus on this lucrative market will help impact DDC’s role in driving local economic development by attracting  business and leisure travel to Washington, DC.

In her role, Miller will expand international MICE strategy and work directly with DDC’s Ambassador Circle. She will lead upcoming international missions and tradeshows including IMEX Frankfurt (May 15-19), the European Association Summit in Brussels (May 29-31), a Mexico City mission (July 10-14) and China mission in August.

Most recently, Miller served as senior business development & marketing manager for CSI DMC, where she focused on sales and lead generation including international MICE, hotel and key account relationships both locally in Washington, DC and abroad.  Prior to CSI DMC, Miller was the business development manager at MCI USA (formerly Coulter Companies) dedicated to the Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International. This is also Miller’s second stint at DDC. Starting as an intern, DDC recognized her potential and she went on to help launch DDC’s international convention sales program through her role as international convention development coordinator.

“We are thrilled to welcome Tara back to the team as we diversify our approach to attract even more international business,” said Melissa Riley, vice president, convention sales and services, Destination DC. “Tara was instrumental in creating many of the activities, structure and priorities we use today. She was a pioneer in DDC international convention sales and set the stage for many of the success we now experience.”

“I’m excited to rejoin DDC. This role enables me to apply industry experience from both the DMC and PCO sectors to create a comprehensive strategy that positions the destination for success. I look forward to attracting not only international association world congresses, but also international corporate and incentive programs to our thriving capital city,” said Miller.

Miller was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and began in the industry by working as a hotel concierge in her hometown. She earned a scholarship from Discover Lancaster, the local convention and visitors bureau, to attend Temple University and graduated from its School of Tourism Hospitality Management.
