President Lincoln's Cottage

President Lincoln's Cottage offers a unique, historic, and award-winning experience for locals and travelers alike!

President Lincoln’s Cottage is a historic site and museum located in the Petworth neighborhood of Northwest Washington, D.C. Abraham Lincoln and his family lived here for over a quarter of his presidency. While in residence at the Cottage, Lincoln led the country through a grave national crisis, visited with wounded soldiers, spent time with self-emancipated men, women and children, and developed some of his greatest ideas, including the Emancipation Proclamation. The human cost of the Civil War surrounded him, undoubtedly impacted his thinking, and strengthened his resolve to challenge the status quo. Lincoln’s experiences at the Cottage provided him and those he influenced with new and diverse perspectives on issues of freedom, justice, and humility.

You are invited to join us on a guided tour of Lincoln's summer home!

In addition to our public, guided Signature Tours offered 362 days per year, we offer a suite of innovative virtual and onsite education programs to support educators and students at any level as they navigate the school year, along with additional resources just for teachers. All onsite field trips include a specialized tour of the Cottage and a hands-on component.

Our venue offerings include ample free parking, handicap accessibility, museum staff/event coordination, and discounts for DCPS, DCPCS, and Title 1 schools in the DMV, as well as nonprofit and government groups.
